PSI nabs Navy technology Web services deal

Planning Systems Inc. won a four-year, $9.5 million contract from the Naval Sea Systems Command to provide Web services, the company said.

The Reston, Va., company will use its off-the-shelf Web-enabled service toolkit, known as CWEST, to support the Navy's FORCEnet initiative to make the Navy more network centric.

The company's CWEST technology, developed under the Small Business Innovative Research program, enables transition to open architecture systems for submarine control and sonar systems.

The contract is for Phase III under the SBIR program. In phases I and II, PSI demonstrated and prototyped the CWEST concept. The technology is now ready for use by the Naval Sea Systems Command to build the processes for transitioning sonar and combat control systems to open architecture under FORCEnet.

PSI, a provider of applications for network-centric programs, homeland security and the commercial sector, has 300 employees and annual sales of $41 million.
