Unisys picks up $345M defense task order

Unisys Corp. won a five-year blanket task order worth up to $345 million from the Defense Department's Counterintelligence Field Activity, the department's primary counterintelligence coordinating body, officials of the Blue Bell, Pa., company said today.

Unisys' first job under the task order is worth about $11 million, company officials said. It will manage the delivery and installation of technology and the implementation of processes for the field activity's technology infrastructure.

CIFA's mission is to develop a system that integrates all counterintelligence activities of the U.S. military, defense agencies, joint staff and combatant commands.

Under the first task order, Unisys will provide data processing and storage resources, systems consolidation, e-government technology and methods, communications systems integration and strategic planning capabilities.

The company also will provide engineering and implementation support services, including technical planning, technology assessment services, architectural assessment, systems design and implementation, just-in-time delivery and staging and configuration services.

The blanket task order was awarded under the Encore vehicle, a governmentwide acquisition contract worth $2 billion over seven years. Encore is designed to support the global integration efforts of the Defense Department, other federal agencies and state and local governments. Unisys was one of nine winning bidders on Encore.

The other eight vendors that won spots on Encore in 2002 are Analytical Services Inc., Computer Sciences Corp., EDS Corp., Lockheed Martin Corp., Northrop Grumman Corp., Pragmatics Inc., TranTech Inc. and TRW Inc., which has since been bought by Northrop Grumman.
