Titan scores missile systems deal from Navy

Titan Corp. received a $22.5 million contract from the Office of Naval Research to design, develop and test a prototype guided missile system, the company said today.

The weapons system consists of a missile, launcher and mobile ground station that use military and off-the-shelf components. It's designed to carry a payload to targets several hundred miles away. With line-of-sight and satellite data links, the system can fly directly to its targets or to an area where it can linger for hours until the weapon is directed to a target.

San Diego-based Titan offers IT and communications systems solutions and services to the Defense and Homeland Security departments and intelligence agencies. It has about 12,000 employees and reported revenue of $1.8 billion in 2003.

The company ranks number 15 on Washington Technology's 2003 Top 100 list of government contractors. The new ranking will be issued in May.
