State CIOs give Geringer tech champion award

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers has picked former Wyoming Gov. Jim Geringer for the group's National Technology Champion Award, citing his work promoting sound IT policy beyond the state's borders.

The award was given to the Geringer April 26 during NASCIO's midyear conference in Chicago.

During his two terms, Geringer was an outspoken advocate for the way technology can enhance government services. He elevated the visibility of government technology by emphasizing the benefits of integrated service delivery and enterprisewide solutions, NASCIO said.

Geringer served as Wyoming's governor from 1994 to 2003. He also was chair of the Washington-based National Governors Association's Technology Task Force.

NASCIO of Lexington, Ky., represents CIOs from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Members include cabinet- and senior-level state officials responsible for information resources management.
