L-3 grabs a pair of Army contracts

L-3 Communications Corp. received two five-year contracts totaling $84 million to provide the Army with software engineering support, the company said today.

Under the first contract, potentially worth more than $48 million, the company will continue to offer tactical communications software engineering support to the Army Communications-Electronics Command. Services include analyzing and managing software requirements, analyzing technical documentation and processes, conducting technical reviews, analyzing code and supporting field exercises.

Under the second contract, worth $36 million, L-3 will continue to provide satellite communications software engineering support for the Army Communications-Electronic Command. The services are similar to the ones in the first contract.

L-3 Communications' ILEX Systems Engineering Services Division, which supplies systems engineering support to the military and intelligence communities, will do the work for both contracts.

Based in New York, L-3 provides intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance services, secure communications systems, aircraft modernization and training services to customers that include the departments of Defense and Homeland Security and federal intelligence agencies.

L-3 reported a profit of $277.6 million on revenue of almost $5.1 billion in 2003, according to its annual report. The Defense Department accounted for 69.3 percent of the company's revenue. L-3 Communications has 38,700 employees.
