Justice picks AMS software for financial and procurement system

American Management Systems Inc. of Fairfax, Va., won a $24 million order from the Justice Department for its Momentum enterprise resource planning software, company officials said April 6.

The agency will use the software in its Unified Financial Management System, an integrated financial management and procurement system. The AMS software will be provided through a General Services Administration IT schedule delivery order, company officials said.

The Justice Department is the 28th federal entity to buy Momentum, according to AMS.

The Unified Financial Management System will eliminate redundant processes and reduce the time needed for the Justice Department to acquire goods and services, according to AMS. Momentum will provide real-time access to information, confidence in internal controls and security, timely reports on program performance, and cost-effective automated purchasing, AMS officials said.

Momentum is one of five commercial software packages that meet federal government standards for financial management. It was certified compliant by the government's Joint Financial Management Improvement Program in June 2003.

JFMIP is an undertaking of the Treasury Department, General Accounting Office, Office of Management and Budget and Office of Personnel Management that works with other federal agencies to improve financial management practices in government.

CGI Group Inc. of Montreal recently announced that it will buy AMS' commercial and nondefense government business for $858 million. Arlington, Va.-based CACI International Inc. is buying the rest of AMS, its Defense and Intelligence Group, for $415 million.
