SI lands large Air Force contract

Information technology company SI International Inc. received an $800 million contract from the Air Force for an assortment of technical supplies and services for command and control, intelligence, and surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, the firm said today.

The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity prime contract succeeds the company's previous seven-year deal with the Air Force for communications and computer infrastructure for command and control, information management and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, widely known as C4I2SR.

Since 1997, SI International of Reston, Va., has been the lead contractor on the original contract, which expires Sept. 30. The renewed contract is valid for three and a half years and has options for more years.

SI International will support the Air Force Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, North American Aerospace Defense Command, U.S. Northern Command and other federal agencies.

The contract was one of the company's two largest in terms of revenue in 2003, generating 22.1 percent of its total revenue of $168.3 million for the fiscal year ended Dec. 27. The federal government generated approximately 94 percent of SI International's 2003 revenue. The company's profit soared 196 percent to $7.4 million in 2003 from $2.5 million in 2002.
