Optimus lands FAA task order through BITS II

Optimus Corp. has won a task order to provide information technology services for automation processes to various organizations at the Air Traffic Control Systems Command Center in Herndon, Va.

The initial task order, awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration, is worth $800,000 for one year. The agency may extend the work for several years if it chooses.

Under the terms of the award, made through the FAA's Broad Information Technology Services II contract, Optimus of Silver Spring, Md., will cover requirements for local and wide area network administration, including system configurations and enhancements and future system integration and support for the command center. The company also will provide administrative and financial analysis support.

BITS II is a $1.7 billion vehicle for small businesses to offer IT services and products to the FAA. Thirty-four companies won a place on the contract in June 2003.

Eric Adolphe, Optimus president and chief executive, said his firm has received a dozen or more task orders through BITS II to date.

"We probably get a task order a week or every other week," Adolphe said.

The FAA is his company's largest customer, he said. Optimus has added about 76 employees to support its work under the contract.
