Motorola debuts video system for public safety

Motorola Inc. has introduced a mobile digital video solution for the public safety market. The company said the new Mobile Video Enforcer is designed to address the need for in-vehicle video recording during public safety incidents.

"This product will significantly enhance officer safety by providing another valuable incident management tool in the field," said Steve Most, business development director of Motorola's Radio Systems Division.

According to Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola, the Mobile Video Enforcer consists of a digital video recorder mounted in an officer's vehicle and a digital video management solution located at the police department.

The recorder captures full-motion video using pre-event and automatic event-triggered recording capabilities. It can operate as a standalone unit or with a Motorola MW800 or ML900 rugged computing device, which would provide control of the recorder through a mobile data terminal display.

Incident and criminal profile information are stored with each video.

The video management solution automatically uploads, archives and organizes captured video from docked recorder units. There is an embedded classification system for organizing video. It is integrated with a file and retention system to ensure local policy compliance. Video clips and still images can be quickly retrieved from a database in a standard format for review, training or evidentiary purposes.

The integrated video solution can help lower an agency's cost of system ownership, the company said.
