Florida CIO Bahrami resigns

Florida CIO Kim Bahrami today announced she is stepping down from her post effective Feb. 27.

Bahrami, who has been CIO since July 2002, plans to work in the private sector. The governor's office has not named a replacement even on an interim basis, Carla Gaskin, communications director for the State Technology Office, said.

"We've laid a strong foundation for technology in Florida and I believe we have set the course for a great future," Bahrami said.

During her tenure, Bahrami led the upgrade of the MyFlorida.com portal, improved the state IT investment review process and established cost savings e-government programs to improve citizen access to state services, state officials said.

She also worked has closely with the Department of Law Enforcement and the state's Domestic Security team on IT components of the state's critical infrastructure protection plan.

Before becoming the CIO, Bahrami was the chief of staff for the CIO and the state's director of enterprise project management. She also worked for the Defense Department in Fort Bragg, N.C., and Landstuhl, Germany, managing IT operations and services.

She earned her master's and bachelor's degrees from the University of Georgia.
