Army Corps of Engineers taps AT&T for data network

AT&T Government Solutions Inc. has won a five-year, $2.2 million contract from the Army Corps of Engineers to outfit its Huntington, W.Va., district with a data network, the company announced Feb. 18.

AT&T Government Solutions of Vienna, Va., will provide the district with a multiprotocol label, switching-based, Internet protocol-enabled frame relay network. It will allow Army Corps personnel in four states to exchange large amounts of data quickly and easily.

AT&T also will provide the Army Corps with AT&T BusinessDirect, which allows users to place orders, report trouble or optimize performance from a secure Web site.

The data network will support 34 regional offices in West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. The regional offices are part of the Army Corps' Great Lakes and Ohio River Division.

AT&T Government Solutions provides IT business to federal, state and local government, and is a unit of AT&T Corp. of Bedminster, N.J. AT&T has about 71,000 employees and annual sales of $34.5 billion. The company ranked No. 31 on Washington Technology's 2003 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
