GIG-BE gains tech stethoscope

Officials of InfoVista Inc. today said the Defense Information Systems Agency has chosen InfoVista Foundation 1.0 software to monitor network performance and service levels in the Global Information Grid-Bandwidth Expansion project.

GIG-BE's prime contractor, Science Applications International Corp., last month chose Juniper Networks Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., to supply core and edge multiprotocol-label-switching routers for the military's worldwide optical internetwork. Juniper selected InfoVista's performance and metrics software tools to do large-scale monitoring of the infrastructure buildout.

Joe Bergera, senior marketing vice president of InfoVista in Herndon, Va., said that as agencies outsource more and more functions, "management becomes a core requirement. You have to understand the quality of service you're getting and know how to optimize your service contracts."

DISA will install the InfoVista software at data centers and points of presence on several continents, Bergera said. It runs under Solaris, Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Server operating systems, he said.
