Okla. taps TransCore for e-toll technology

TransCore Inc. has won a $16.5 million contract from the Oklahoma Transportation Authority to support the state's electronic toll collection program, the company announced Oct. 17.

Under the contract, TransCore of Dallas will provide Oklahoma with 620,000 windshield transponders and 10,000 license plate tags for use in the collection system known as PikePass. The agreement fulfills the authority's tag requirements for the next three years, the company said.

The contract culminates a multiyear effort to transition the PikePass system from read-only tags to next-generation read-write tags.

The authority estimates it is adding 10,000 new PikePass accounts per month, and replacing old tags at a rate of 10,000 per month, a pace it expects eventually will reach 24,000 per month.

TransCore, a provider of transportation-based radio frequency identification products, has contracts for electronic toll systems, customer service centers and violation processing with domestic and international customers. The privately held company has 1,800 employees.
