NASCIO honors outstanding IT achievements
A Michigan IT security project and a Virginia consolidation program are among the winners of national association honors.
A Michigan project designed to serve as a model for promoting security among state information technology systems and networks, and a Virginia initiative designed to consolidate IT management operations for greater accountability and efficiency are among nine projects that will receive special recognition this week from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers.
NASCIO, which represents state CIOs, will give the 2003 Recognition Awards for Oustanding Achievement in the Field of Information Technology Sept. 9 at the group's annual conference in Phoenix.
The winning projects were selected from 133 nominations received from 33 states. The awards are given annually.
"The NASCIO awards program is the premier event for recognizing technology innovations by states and their private-sector partner," said Gerry Wethington, NASCIO president and Missouri CIO.
"The winning projects are intended to exemplify the 'best of the best,' and to demonstrate how IT works to increase efficiencies, cost effectiveness and service delivery at the state government level."
The selection criterion for the awards includes a project description, including the length of time in operation; significance to the operation of government; benefits realized by state recipients, taxpayers, agency and the state; and the return on investment.
