Sierra Systems to build LAPD risk management system

Sierra Systems Group Inc. has won a $12 million contract from Los Angeles to provide critical information technology solutions for the city's police department, the company announced Aug. 25.

Under the contract, Sierra Systems of Vancouver, British Columbia, will provide a risk management information system and use of force system for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The risk management information system will draw data from more than 12 LAPD systems and provide sophisticated tools for analyzing the aggregated data, the company said.

The system will identify potential at-risk behavior and promote best policing practices by triggering early intervention activities and notifications. The use of force system will use advanced work flow technology to replace the current paper process for tracking all occurrences of officers using force.

Los Angeles has entered into a consent decree with the Justice Department that requires the city to develop a training, evaluation and management system, known as TEAMS II, for LAPD. The design, development and implementation of the risk management information and use of force systems are cornerstones of that development program effort.

Sierra Systems, a provider of business consulting and technology services, has more than 900 employees.
