Motorola nabs Lane County, Ore., public safety deal

Motorola Inc. won a $7.7 million contract from Lane County, Ore., to provide an integrated digital justice solution that will be the foundation of the county's public safety system, the company announced.

Under the contract, Motorola of Schaumberg, Ill., will provide computer-aided dispatch, records management and mobile applications that will allow agencies throughout the county to share information and communicate more effectively. The system will be in place by 2005, the company said.

The solution will feature Motorola's Premier computer-aided dispatch system, Infotrak law records management system, Premier Mobile Data Computer and Premier Mobile Data Computer Reporting applications.

The solution also will include integration of the county's Motorola Offendertrak corrections management system, which was installed last year, and the Justice Systems' FullCourt case management system.

Motorola's Integration Framework architecture will connect the network of systems.

The system is the second phase of a major interagency information conversion. When completed, the new network will enable the Area Information Records System, a regional consortium of city and county public safety agencies and courts, to quickly and efficiently respond to calls, handle incidents and administer related court cases, the company said. The consortium serves more than 80 agencies.

Motorola, a provider of integrated communications and information solutions, has more than 97,000 employees and had annual sales of $27.3 billion in 2002. The company was ranked No. 24 on the Washington Technology Top 100.
