SRA wins defense radio system deal

SRA International Inc. won a task order to provide systems engineering and program support services to the Defense Department's Joint Tactical Radio System Joint Program Office, company officials announced today.

The task order is worth about $41 million over five years if all options are exercised. It was awarded to the Fairfax, Va., company under the General Services Administration's Federal Supply Schedule.

The JTRS program was created to address the problem of incompatibility of radios within and across the military services and between U.S. forces and allied and coalition partners.

JTRS is a family of software reprogrammable radios that will provide U.S. commanders and fighters with a single, integrated voice and data system.

The Joint Program Office was established by the Defense Department to ensure standardization and commonality of JTRS systems across the department. SRA will provide communications systems engineering, program support services and full life-cycle acquisition support to the JPO for the oversight of the development and fielding of JTRS.

SRA's team includes Aeronix Inc. of Melbourne, Fla., Alion Science and Technology of McLean, Va., Blue Collar Objects Inc. of Fairfax, Va., Booz Allen Hamilton Inc. of McLean, Va., Dynamics Research Corp. of Andover, Mass., Galaxy Scientific Corp. of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and LOG.SEC Corp. of Warrenton, Va.

The SRA team has a strong working relationship with the Joint Tactical Radio System, said Ernst Volgenau, SRA president and chief executive officer.

SRA provides information technology services and solutions to clients in national security, civil government, health care and public health. The company employs 2,600 people and had $361.2 million in revenue in 2002.
