Maximus nabs Maryland child-care system deal

Maximus Inc. has won a two-year, $7.3 million contract from Maryland to provide a new child-care administration management information system, the company announced today.

Under the contract, Maximus of Reston, Va., will replace the existing system, which it also built, with a new Web-based system.

The new system will employ the company's MAXchild Care system, which is driven by Maximus' human services enterprise solution framework. The framework is one of the only Sun Microsystems J2EE-compliant frameworks available to states, according to the company.

The Web-based system will credential child-care providers within the first 12 months. Both purchase of care and licensing functionality will be completed by the end of the two-year contract period, the company said.

The company has built or is in the process of building child-care information systems for Georgia, Vermont and Palm Beach County, Fla.

Maximus, a provider of program management, consulting and information technology services for state and local government, has more than 5,500 employees and annual sales of $487.3 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
