Motorola locks up Minnesota public safety deal

Motorola Inc. won a $3.3 million contract from a consortium of local governments in Minnesota to provide an integrated public safety solution, the company announced today.

Under the contract, Motorola of Schaumberg, Ill., will provide computer-aided dispatch, records management, mobile applications and mobile reporting technologies to Minnesota's Local Government Information Systems consortium.

Motorola will begin working on the project later this year. The company plans to finish the project in early 2005.

The 28-member consortium's provides a full range of locally supported, highly reliable management information systems, data processing services and related support services. About 18 of the 28 members of the consortium plan to use the public safety solution.

The solution will let city and county agencies share information and communicate more effectively, the company said.

Motorola has more than 111,000 employees and has annual sales of $27.3 billion in fiscal 2002
