More states to receive first-responder grants
Ten states will receive a portion of nearly $400 million in grants from the Department of Homeland Security to enhance response and preparedness capabilities.
The announcement marks the seventh time Homeland Security has issued grants to first responders since March 1. The agency has given about $4.4 billion to first responders and state and local government since March 1.First responders have used some of the money to pay for equipment, planning, training and exercises. Other funds have been used to harden security or to pay for overtime costs associated with heightened alerts.
