EDS-Telindus in Flemish IT outsourcing deal

A consortium led by Electronic Systems Data Corp. and Telindus has won a five-year contract from the Flemish government to provide information and communication technology services, the companies announced today.

Based on current spending levels, the contract is estimated to be worth $513 million, according to the Ministry of the Flemish Community. However, the final contract value will depend on the number of services purchased during the five-year contract term.

Under the contract, the EDS of Plano, Texas, and Telindus of Heverlee, Belgium, will provide a broad package of services, including application development and maintenance, network, and security and user support.

In addition, the consortium will be responsible for the further development and integration of the government's information and communication technology infrastructure.

Yvan Morel de Westgaver, managing director of EDS Benelux, said that the contract is a milestone for the company and will strengthen its position as a market leader in the Belgian IT outsourcing market.

EDS, a provider of information technology services to commercial and government customers, has more than 137,000 employees and has annual sales of $21.5 billion.

Telindus, a subsidiary of Telindus Group NV, is a provider of network and telecommunications services. The company has more than 2,400 employees and has annual sales of $580 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
