Raytheon gets $90 million to support Army supercomputing

Raytheon Co. has won a $90 million contract from the Army Research Laboratory to provide supercomputing technology support, the company announced May 27. The contract is for four months with six one-year options.

Under the contract, Raytheon of Upper Marlboro, Mass., will provide supercomputing technology support to U.S. soldiers. Specifically, it will focus on technical operations support, including system administration, operations and maintenance and security.

In addition, the company will perform user support and outreach, including help-desk support, user software and applications support and scientific visualization.

The Army Research Laboratory at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Md., administers and operates one of the four Defense Department High Performance Computing Major Shared Resource Centers established under the direction of the high performance computing modernization program. The work will be done in Maryland.

Raytheon has more than 76,000 employees and had annual sales of $16.8 billion in 2002.
