Unisys Corp. is consolidating the operations of its Global Public Sector in Fairfax County, Va., and is expanding its facilities to accommodate up to 750 new jobs the company expects to add over the next three years.

The company also will relocate another 150 employees from space leased in Washington. Unisys currently employs more than 1,500 people in Virginia.

Unisys will lease a 275,000-square-foot office building in Reston from Cable & Wireless to house its consulting services and systems integration support and services for its public sector customers. The company also plans to lease an additional 145,000 square feet of space in northern Virginia to complete the consolidation.

Company spokeswoman Lisa Meyer said the relocation will begin in about a year, to allow some building out and reconfiguring of the space. The expansion is expected to be complete in mid-2005, Meyer said.

Unisys' current projects include work at the Transportation Security Administration to develop an agency-wide IT infrastructure for protecting travelers at some 429 commercial airports across the country.

"The new jobs are going to run the gamut ? managerial, technical and administrative. Approximately 200 of the job openings are TSA-related," Meyer said.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority assisted Unisys with its decision to expand. Unisys qualifies for a Major Business Facility Job Tax Credit, an incentive available to all qualifying companies. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce-training services.

Headquartered in Blue Bell, Pa., Unisys Corp. has more than 36,000 employees worldwide. The company reported 2002 revenue of more than $5.6 billion.
