Sysorex resurfaces, targets public-sector with ISC acquisition

Systems integrator Sysorex Consulting Inc., Mountain View, Calif., has completed the integration of Information Systems Consortium Inc., Fairfax, Va.

Sysorex will use the resources of ISC, which it purchased in August 2002, to regain a hold in the government marketplace, said Nadir Ali, president of Sysorex Federal Inc., a Vienna, Va.-based, wholly owned subsidiary of Sysorex.

"We purchased ISC to jump-start our effort in the federal market, particularly in high-end services," Ali said. "Initially, we'll be looking at the market for IT infrastructure support."

Longtime watchers of the government IT market may remember the Sysorex name. The company operated as a value-added reseller from 1982 until 1997, when it was sold to reseller VanStar Corp., Atlanta. After the sale, it was renamed VanStar Government Systems Inc. In 1979, VanStar merged with InaCom Inc., Alpharetta, Ga. InaCom is now in bankruptcy proceedings.

Ali, who worked for the original Sysorex, is part of a team that launched a new company under the Sysorex name last July. He said his team was contractually barred from using the Sysorex name until then.

ISC was a federal integrator that earned as much as $175 million a year in revenue from delivering services to federal, state and local government clients.

Ali said Sysorex plans to build on ISC's relationships with federal integrators, such as Accenture Ltd., IBM Corp. and Northrop Grumman Corp. It will also assume ISC's space on the General Services Administration schedule for training and IT professional services.

ISC's government clients include the Army, Navy and the departments of Agriculture, Health and Human Services, Treasury and Veterans Affairs.

In addition, ISC has a contract history that will help Sysorex meet past-performance criteria for upcoming bids, Ali said. Many employees at ISC staff have beneficial, top-secret facility clearances and relevant development skills.
