State CIOs salute Davis with tech champion award

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers has picked Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) to receive the group's inaugural National Technology Champion Award. The award was given to Davis this week during NASCIO's midyear conference in Pittsburgh.

In presenting the award to Davis, the group cited his work in advancing the case for enterprisewide information technology architecture, encouraging the reform of unwieldy federal IT funding policies and fighting to bring a unified focus on e-government to Washington.

In the last two years, Davis successfully pushed several bills through Congress, including the Digital Tech Corps Act and the E-Government Act of 2002.

NASCIO's National Technology Champion Award was developed to recognize an individual for outstanding contributions in the field of information technology policy.

The association plans to give the award annually to acknowledge people promoting excellence in both technology and government. Nominees may be federal, state or local officials, such as legislators, academics or an individual in the private sector. State CIOs are not eligible for the award.
