NASCIO executive committee elects Jarrett vice president

Thomas Jarrett, chief information officer for Delaware, has been elected vice president of the National Association of State CIOs, the association announced this week.

NASCIO's executive committee nominated and elected Jarrett at the association's mid-year conference in Pittsburgh earlier this month.

Jarrett replaces Harry Lanphear, who recently vacated the post upon his departure as Maine's CIO. Jarrett plans to serve as NASCIO vice president for the remainder of the association's 2002-3003 program year.

Gerry Wethington, Missouri's CIO, was elected NASCIO's president at the association's annual conference last October in St. Louis.

Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner tapped Jarrett to become the state's first CIO in Sept. 2001. The appointment was part of sweeping reforms in how Delaware manages information technology services. As the state's first CIO, Jarrett has broad authority to ensure that technology is deployed on time and on budget in a way that meets the needs of state agencies.

Since his appointment, Jarrett has been an active member of NASCIO. In addition to filling his new role as vice president, Jarrett will continue to serve as chairman of NASCIO's Strategic IT Business and Services Committee.
