ITT wins $31 million GPS subcontract work

ITT Industries Inc., White Plains, N.Y., won a $31 million contract with the Boeing Co., Chicago, to install jam-resistant equipment on 12 Global Positioning System satellites, the company announced Thursday. Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems division awarded the work.

Under the contract, ITT will install new transmitters, power amplifiers, modulators and converters to make the satellites more resistant to signal jamming. The work will also add flexibility to the power systems.

"This modernization effort is part of the government's continuing effort to sustain GPS as the global standard for navigation and timing services," said Lou Dollive, the president of ITT's aerospace and communication division, which is doing the work. The work will be completed over the course of eight years.

Employing 38,000 people, ITT Industries generated $5 billion in sales for 2002. The company sells products and services such as electronic interconnects and switches, opto-electronics, information technology solutions and services and fluid management.
