General Dynamics nets $39M in orders

General Dynamics C4 Systems of Taunton, Mass., has received two contract modifications totaling $39.1 million to its multiyear Common Hardware/Software II contract.

Under the contract, the company provides information technology equipment, software and services for the Project Manager Army Tactical Operations Centers/Air and Missile Defense Command and Control Systems. The Army Communications Electronics Command is the contracting authority.

C4 Systems is a business unit in the General Dynamics Information Systems and Technology group. General Dynamics Corp. is headquartered in Falls Church, Va.

The value of the 10-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract since award in 1995 is $867 million. The two contract modifications raise the amount of 2003 orders under the contract to $70 million.

The new orders include handheld computers and situational awareness software, hardened Unix notebook computers and rugged, rack-mountable servers, displays and network equipment.

"These contract modifications deliver GPS-equipped PDAs to the first-in forces; engineering support to Arctic weather testing for the Stryker Brigade Combat Team; and a first-of-its-kind ruggedized UltraSPARC laptop computer to the Army's Fire Support element," said Chris Marzilli, vice president of commercial hardware systems for General Dynamics C4 Systems.

As the prime contractor, General Dynamics provides a complete hardware suite and associated software for full integration into major Army command and control systems. The company also provides program management and user support.

General Dynamics employs approximately 57,000 people worldwide and had 2002 revenue of $13.8 billion.
