Bob Woods, former president of business applications solutions at Affiliated Computer Services Inc.'s government solutions group and current chairman of the Industry Advisory Council, has left ACS to start his own consulting company.

The new firm, Government Sources LLC, will specialize in government outsourcing.

"It's going to be very busy for the next couple of years, [and] I don't think there's a lot of people in this space right now," Woods said. "I've done a lot of [outsourcing] on the government side, and on this side I've had to provide the services. ... I don't think there are many consultants who can say that."

Woods said he will remain affiliated with ACS for some time, but without day-to-day responsibilities. He has two commitments from clients, but has not yet signed contracts with them.

Woods was technology director at the Federal Aviation Administration from 1972 to 1987, and also served with the departments of Transportation and Veterans Affairs. In 1994, he became the first commissioner of the General Services Administration's Federal Technology Service. He joined ACS in 1999 after working for two years at Federal Sources Inc.
