Labor's Callahan to lead AFFIRM

The Association for Federal Information Resources Management yesterday named Laura Callahan, the Labor Department's deputy CIO, to succeed Debra Stouffer as president.

Stouffer earlier this month announced she is leaving her position as chief technology officer of the Environmental Protection Agency to become vice president of consulting services for DigitalNet Inc. of Bethesda, Md. AFFIRM bylaws require the president to be a federal employee.

Callahan, who was the vice-president of AFFIRM, will ascend to the presidency Feb. 1 and complete Stouffer's term through June 2003. She then will remain as president through June 2004, completing the typical organizational succession. Stouffer was elevated to the presidency last June, taking over for Emory Miller of the General Services Administration.

Callahan said she is excited about her new role and hopes to build on the government's relationship with industry through her new position.

She also serves the Federal CIO Council as co-chairwoman for the IT workforce and human capital committee.
