Michael Rene Pouliot, 46, of San Diego was killed when gunman opened fire on the vehicle in which was a passenger. He was identified by the U.S. Embassy as an employee of Tapestry Solutions Inc. of San Diego, according to the Reuters news service.

Pouliot and a second man, another American employee of Tapestry, were driving in a sport utility vehicle near the Army's Camp Doha when they came under attack.

The second man, who has not been identified, was severely wounded. He was taken to Al Sabah Hospital in Kuwait City and is in critical condition, according to the Department of Defense.

Tapestry Solutions provides graphical software products and services, and specializes in military modeling and simulation training tools. The company developed the Joint Deployment Logistics Model and the Exercise Control and After Action Review tool for the U.S. military.
