ACS wins contract to support Southern Command

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has signed a one-year contract with the General Services Administration to provide support to the U.S. Southern Command, the company announced Jan. 13.

The blanket purchase agreement has four one-year options and is valued at $27 million over the five-year period, the company said. The agreement has a ceiling of $100 million.

Under the contract, ACS of Dallas will support Southern Command, which is based in Miami, in its mission to conduct the war on terrorism. The company declined to elaborate further on the scope of the contract.

Harvey Braswell, group president of ACS' Government Services, said the contract award underscores the company's successful past performance with the Southern Command as well as its intelligence and analysis capabilities.

Southern Command is one of the country's nine unified commands throughout the world. Personnel from the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard are assigned to the command.

Southern Command's area of responsibility encompasses 32 countries in Central and South America and the Caribbean Sea.

ACS provides information technology and business process outsourcing to government and commercial clients. The company has about 40,000 employees and annual revenue of $3 billion.
