Official Payments re-ups four contracts

Official Payments Corp. has won four electronic payment renewal contracts with state and local governments, the company announced Dec. 2.

The Stamford, Conn.-based company has won a three-year renewal from the New Jersey Division of Revenue, a three-year renewal from the Minnesota Department of Revenue, a one-year renewal from Wisconsin's Department of Revenue and a one-year renewal from Richmond, Va.

The contract renewals authorize Official Payments to continue its electronic collection of credit card payments for taxes, fines and fees on behalf of the state and city governments.

The company has processed more than 47,000 transactions for these customers, said James Bildner, Official Payments' chairman and chief executive officer.

In addition to these customers, Official Payments provides similar credit card tax payment services for the Internal Revenue Service, 22 other states and more than 1,300 local governments throughout the nation.

Official Payments charges a convenience fee for the service. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tier Technologies Inc. of Walnut Creek, Calif.

Tier Technologies is a consulting firm that provides business and information technology consulting, systems design and integration, transaction processing and business process outsourcing and re-engineering for state and local government and the health care, insurance and utilities markets.

Tier Technologies has more than 950 employees and annual revenue of $103.8 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
