General Dynamics gets Navy submarine work

General Dynamics Corp., Falls Church, Va., won a contract, worth up to $221 million, to support and develop weapon control systems for Trident submarines, the company announced Dec. 17.

Under a contract issued by the Navy's Strategic Systems Programs Office, General Dynamic's Advanced Information Systems business unit will modify the Trident Fire Control and Launcher design used on Trident ballistic missile submarines. The company will also produce four new six attack weapon control systems and support others already in operation.

The initial value of the contract is $90 million, but if all options are exercised, the contract could have a value of $221 million.

"This contract award represents the next phase of our command and control work for the weapon systems currently deployed on Ohio Class submarines," said Mike Eagan, General Dynamics' director of the program.
