DigitalNet completes Getronics purchase

DigitalNet Inc. completed its $223 million purchase of Getronics Government Solutions, the company announced Dec. 2.

DigitalNet of Bethesda, Md., was a startup with just four employees before the purchase of Getronics. The company is being backed with $100 million in financing from GTCR Golder Rauner, a Chicago-based private venture capital firm.

Ken Bajaj, DigitalNet chief executive officer, was president of I-Net Inc., a network and desktop outsourcing company, which he sold to Wang Laboratories in 1996. Wang was then acquired in 1999 by the Dutch firm Getronics NV and renamed Getronics Government Solutions.

"We determined early on that Getronics Government Solutions was the best platform company in the marketplace on which to build our future," Bajaj said. "We are fortunate to have identified a company with such outstanding individual talent, strong customer loyalty and unusually broad technical expertise."

Getronics Government Solutions, based in Herndon, Va., provides managed infrastructure services, information assurance, application development and integration to civilian agencies, the intelligence community and the Defense Department.

With the completion of the purchase, the business new name is DigitalNet Government Solutions and employs 1,700 people. The company plans to enhance its offerings to include advanced solutions, such as converged and secure wireless networking technologies.
