ASC acquires Thoughtmill Corp.

American Systems Corp. of Chantilly, Va., purchased Thoughtmill Corp., an Atlanta-based software developer, ASC announced Dec. 9. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

ASC is a systems engineering firm that provides services such as infrastructure installations and rollouts, systems and network integration, enterprise application deployment and integration, visual design and training. Thoughtmill is the second acquisition this year for ASC, which in January acquired Integrated Computer Engineering Inc., a risk management software developer.

Elliot Needleman, ASC's president and chief executive officer, said the acquisitions "will expand our software and Internet development capabilities and enable us to provide a broader range of end-to-end customer, enterprise and supplier-facing solutions to defense and civilian federal agencies and businesses in many vertical markets."

Adding Thoughtmill strengthens and expands ASC's technical offerings, including enterprisewide architecture consulting and design services, business process re-engineering, system design fulfillment, risk assessment, quality assurance and life-cycle management services for Web-based applications, Needleman said.

ASC's government clients include the Army, Navy and Air Force as well as the departments of Justice, Agriculture, Veterans Affairs and State and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Thoughtmill will be a division of ASC and focus on life-cycle development and consulting, retaining the Thoughtmill name as well as its management team and personnel.

Founded in 1975, ASC is an employee-owned company with 1,000 people in 21 offices nationwide and projected 2002 revenue of $154 million.
