Texas re-ups EDS for Medicaid claims administration

Electronic Data Systems Corp. won a $150 million contract extension from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to provide claims administration services for the state's Medicaid program.<br>

Electronic Data Systems Corp. won a $150 million contract extension from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to provide claims administration services for the state's Medicaid program, the company announced Nov. 13.

The contract will be administered by National Heritage Insurance Co. of Austin, Texas, which is a subsidiary of EDS of Plano, Texas.

The contract includes one six-month option and runs through February 2004, EDS said. Under the extension, NHIC will support Texas' acute-care, long-term care, family-planning and child health-care Medicaid programs.

NHIC provides a range of services, including claims processing, provider outreach and education, call-center support, hospital audits and information-technology management.

EDS provides various Medicaid and Medicare process management services in 19 states. In Texas, NHIC has served as the claims administrator for the state's Medicaid program since 1977.

EDS has more than 143,000 employees and annual revenue of $21.5 billion, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
