American Management Systems Inc. won a seven-year, $156 million contract from the New York City Department of Finance to operate a parking violation system.
Under the contract, AMS of Fairfax, Va., will manage and remotely host the Summons Tracking and Accounts Receivable System, known as STARS. In addition, AMS will support the integration and maintenance of other New York City systems.
The goal of the project is to support the complex business processes necessary to identify and collect financial obligations that will enhance the working environment of the city's employees, according to the company.
The project will be performed by AMS personnel in New York and Fairfax, Va., who will offer software design, development and maintenance to both STARS and other municipal systems.
The New York City Department of Finance processes nearly 9 million parking tickets annually. Tickets are issued by employees of 14 city agencies and generate more than $375 million in revenue each year.
