SAIC snares a pair of big wins

Science Applications International Corp., San Diego, won a pair of government contracts worth a combined $753 million, the company announced Oct. 7.


The Air National Guard and the Army awarded SAIC a task order contract with a $598 million ceiling to provide environmental engineering, scientific and remediation support services. The contract runs for one year and has nine option years.

The company will provide support services such as identifying new technologies and regulatory approaches to streamline site closures and to help the Guard achieve environmental compliance at facilities.


In the second contract, the U.S. Geological Survey awarded the company a five-year, $155 million to provide scientific, engineering and operational technical support services to the Earth Resources Observation Systems Data Center.


SAIC will provide more than 400 people to support the EROS satellite data reception, processing and distribution facility, which is located outside Sioux Falls, S.D. The center receives, processes, archives and distributes remote sensing data from aircraft and satellites.


"The work at the EROS Data Center is both challenging and vital to our understanding of future global climate and environmental change, which is at the center of national debate today," said Neil Hutchinson, SAIC senior vice president and manager of the SEAS Group.
