Iowa taps AMS for enterprise resource planning

American Management Systems Inc. has won a 31-month, $9.4 million contract to provide Iowa with a Web-based enterprise resource planning solution, the company announced Oct. 9.


Under the contract, AMS of Fairfax, Va., will offer software and implementation services for a number of government functions, including statewide integrated budget and performance management, accounting, electronic procurement and human resources, payroll and benefits.


The system, which is based on AMS' Advantage solution, will require virtually no customization, the company said.


The ERP system will help Iowa further its digital government efforts, improve the business processes of government and make information more accessible to policy-makers and to the public, said Richard Varn, Iowa's chief information officer.


The project builds on the company's 20-year partnership with the state, said Terry Blake, vice president of AMS' public-sector ERP service line.


AMS is a global business and information technology consulting firm with about 7,000 employees and $1.1 billion in annual revenue, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
