GAO denies second protest of Veridian's STARS contract award
A protest filed by EER Systems Inc. of Chantilly, Va., about the Navy's award of a $154.4 million, contract to Veridian Corp. has been denied by the General Accounting Office, according to Veridian. A Veridian statement said company officials hope to begin work on the contract in January.

Veridian announced earlier this month that the GAO had denied another protest of the same award. That protest was filed by Science Applications International Corp. of San Diego, the incumbent vendor on the contract.
GAO has not published its decision yet. The decision will include information about the protests filed by SAIC and EER.
The contract supports the Naval Air Systems Command Weapons Division at China Lake and Point Mugu in California. The contract is for scientific, technical, administrative, research, development, test and evaluation services related to the Navy's development of weapons systems.
Veridian officials said they expect to hire more than 200 employees to support the contract, which includes studies, analysis and assessments; project planning, technical review and documentation of IT systems; software development; quality assurance and quality control of IT systems; test support systems; and management of sensitive and secure data systems. Revenue in the first year of the contract is expected to be at least $15 million.
"We're delighted to be able to move forward on this important work for NAVAIR, as we expand our 30-year relationship with the Navy," said Keith Jackson, senior vice president of Veridian and president of Veridian's Engineering Division.
Veridian won the five-year contract in July. The company provides of information-based systems, integrated solutions and services specializing in mission-critical, national security programs for the intelligence community, the Department of Defense and other U.S. government agencies involved in homeland security.
Veridian's team includes Netzer Russell Consulting LLC of Ridgecrest, Calif., Synectic Solutions Inc. of Camarillo, Calif., SYS of San Diego and Vector Planning and Services Inc. of San Diego.
