ACS wires Delaware toll bridges for E-ZPass

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. won a five-year, $13.5 million contract to provide customer service operations for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, the company announced Oct. 16.

Under the contract, ACS of Dallas will handle all levels of customer service, including applications, consumer accounts and other customer needs for the commission's new E-ZPass system.

The toll bridge commission expects to provide the E-ZPass system on seven bridges by the end of 2002.

ACS currently processes more than $500 million in electronic toll collection transactions and collects in excess of $1.3 billion in toll revenues annually for New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, South Carolina and California, according to company officials.

E-ZPass is an electronic toll collections system that works similar to a supermarket price scanner. When drivers travel through a toll booth, a device on their vehicles is scanned, and the system deducts the cost of the toll from a credit card account.

ACS provides business process and information technology outsourcing solutions to commercial and government clients. The company has about 40,000 employees and $3 billion in annual revenue, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
