Texas re-ups ACS for Medicaid management

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has signed a $23 million contract extension with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to continue providing administrative services to the state's Medicaid Primary Care Case Management System, the company announced Sept. 25.

The one-year contract has two six-month extensions. Under the contract, ACS of Dallas will provide Medicaid PCCM member education and outreach; call center services for providers and members; a clinical nurse hotline; case management and care coordination; management of primary care provider and hospital network; and management reporting focused on quality of care and appropriate provision and use of health care services.

Texas operates the third largest Medicaid program in the United States, according to ACS. At the close of fiscal 2002, the Texas Medicaid program covered more than 2.2 million recipients in 254 countries and spent about $14.3 billion.

Texas' Medicaid managed care program, the state of Texas Access Reform program, of which Texas Health Network is the PCCM model component, covers 820,814 program recipients. Of those, Texas Health Network serves 278,074 members primarily composed of women and children.

ACS provides business process and information technology outsourcing solutions to commercial and government clients. The company has about 36,200 employees and annual sales of $3 billion, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
