Navigation Technologies launches government unit

Digital map provider Navigation Technologies Corp., Chicago, has launched a government business unit, the company announced Sept. 17. Harry Voccola, Navigation senior vice president, will lead the unit.

The Washington-based unit, to be called Government Solutions Business, will handle federal, state and local governments. It will target its products for government applications such as traveler information, advanced driver assistance systems, congestion mitigation, 911 support and Homeland Security initiatives.

Founded in 1985, privately held Navigation Technologies, with 1,200 employees, creates digital maps for location-based services. Government clients include the National Imagery and Mapping Agency, the Texas Department of Transportation, the New York State Police and the New York City Fire Department.
