Baltimore re-ups TeleCommunications Systems

TeleCommunications Systems Inc. won a one-year, $4 million contract extension of its network and systems support contract with the city of Baltimore, the company announced Sept. 12.

The contract, an extension of a 1998 deal for network systems integration, was awarded by the Baltimore Board of Estimates, the Annapolis, Md.-based company said.

Under the contract, TeleCommunications Systems will provide network assessment and design; installation and management of local area networks, wide area networks and metropolitan area networks; desktop hardware and software installation and integration, system consultation services; Java and Oracle and legacy database design and support; and personal computer software training.

The contract is under the direction of the Mayor's Office of Information Technology. The office provides network support and services to departments such as finance, public works, police and health.

TeleCommunications Systems is a provider of software and solutions to wireless telecommunication carriers and to government customers requiring high reliability and security.

The company has about 500 employees and annual revenue of $70 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
