General Dynamics' buys Command System

General Dynamics Corp. has acquired Command System Inc., a provider of command and control hardware and software to the U.S. and international military markets, General Dynamics announced Aug. 27. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

CSI of Fort Wayne, Ind., specializes in rapid deployment and development of command and control systems and has sold more than 300,000 licenses in eight countries for its off-the-shelf command and control suites.

CSI is working on the Army Future Combat Systems program and its products are key elements in the other U.S. and British military programs.

The company will become part of General Dynamics C4 Systems Inc. of Taunton, Mass.

CSI will complement C4 Systems' products and services, which include mobile, secure communications, networking, computing and joint fire coordination systems.

In addition to strengthening the company's command and control capabilities, the acquisition also "increases our role in key transformational programs and gives us a broader range of situational awareness products for ground forces, as well as products for civilian emergency services and technologies with homeland security application," said Gerard DeMuro, president of C4 Systems.

CSI has 34 employees. General Dynamics of Falls Church, Va., has more than 54,000 employees and annual revenue of $14 billion.
