Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Jerome Landry was named partner executive for the Global Defense and Space Group at Cisco Systems in Herndon, Va., a provider of Internet networking equipment. Landry was previously with TRW.
Randy Ridley joined Vienna, Va.-based Metacarta as vice president of sales. He specializes in defense security agencies with the federal, state and local marketplaces. Ridley will be responsible for the global sales of Metacarta's software platform, which integrates the search and analysis of text data and geographical data in one Web-based application.
Convera, a Vienna, Va., provider of search and retrieval software products and solutions, hired Claude Vogel, an authority on linguistic analysis and categorization, as chief scientist. Vogel, founder and former chief technology officer of Semio Corp., will join Convera's research and development team by broadening the core indexing, categorization and dynamic classification capabilities of Convera's RetrievalWare search, retrieval and categorization technology.
New York-based Wasabi Systems, added David Henkel-Wallace to its board of directors. Henkel-Wallace is a partner at A.B. Scott, a small company advisory firm. As one of the three founders of Cygnus Solutions, the pioneering open source software company purchased by Red Hat in 1999, Henkel-Wallace will bring his distinguished background and expertise in the embedded open source market to embedded NetBSD vendor Wasabi Systems. Henkel-Wallace was also a founding member of The Little Garden, one of the first private Internet service providers and a founder of Zembu Labs, an enterprise distributed systems company.
Tracye Turner has joined PlanGraphics Inc., a Frankfort, Ky., provider of solutions based on the advanced technologies of geographic information systems, data warehouses and repositories, electronic document management systems, and internal and external communication networks. She will lead its federal business development efforts. Previously, Turner was with Northrop Grumman Information Technology.
C. Lynn Lowder has joined the litigation practice group in Piper Rudnick's Chicago office as of counsel. He is a seasoned trial lawyer and focuses his practice on corporate litigation. Prior to joining the firm he was an executive with Colt's Manufacturing Co. Inc. and Mail Boxes Etc.
Vredenburg, a Reston, Va., provider of professional and technical services and information technology solutions for government and commercial markets, appointed two new professionals to its sales and marketing team. Dyson Richards is the company's director of IT sales and marketing and Katherine Thomas is IT business area manager. Richards has more than 10 years of experience, most recently with Lexign. Thomas has 17 years of experience with Ceyoniq and DynCorp.
