Signal wins $50 million transportation contract

Signal Corp. of Fairfax, Va., announced July 15 it has been awarded a three-year, $50 million contract from the Federal Highway Administration to support traffic monitoring and management in the nation's most traffic-congested areas.


The contract calls for deploying sensor network systems and infrastructure in 25 major metropolitan areas nationwide. The deal supports a public-private partnership among the department, various state departments of transportation and Signal's partner, Mobility Technologies Inc. of Wayne, Pa.


The task order was awarded under Signal's ITOP II contract with the Transportation Department under the Intelligent Transportation Joint Program Office in the FHA.


"We're very pleased to be a part of the solution by monitoring and, ultimately, easing traffic congestion throughout the country," said Roger Mody, Signal's president and chief executive officer. "This is a great example of federal, state and private sectors working together for the public good."


Metropolitan areas to be phased in over the next three years include: Baltimore; Birmingham, Ala.; Boston; Chicago; Cleveland; Dallas-Fort Worth; Denver; Detroit; Houston; Indianapolis; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Miami; New York-Northern New Jersey; Northern Kentucky-Cincinnati; Oklahoma City; Orlando, Fla.; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Pittsburgh; Portland, Ore.; Providence, R.I.; Salt Lake City; San Diego; San Francisco; St. Louis; Seattle; Tampa, Fla. and Washington.
