Deloitte Consulting of New York will change its name to Braxton, the company announced July 18. The new name is drawn from a consulting firm Deloitte purchased in 1984 called Braxton Associates.

"While our competitors are distancing themselves from their consulting roots, we are reaffirming our commitment to the profession," said Doug McCracken, chief executive officer of Deloitte Consulting.

Deloitte's name change follows one by PwC Consulting. In June, PwC announced it would change its name to Monday once it is spun off from parent company PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP of New York, a move expected later this summer.

According to Deloitte, Braxton was the single most popular suggestion from the firm's own people.

In February, the company announced it would separate from its parent company, the accounting firm Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, New York. The separation is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
