Boeing subsidiary scores navy aircraft computer job

McDonnell Douglas Corp. is being awarded a $21 million contract to procure 83 warfare management computers to be used in the aircraft of the U.S. Navy and the governments of Italy and Spain, the Defense Department announced June 27.

The Naval Air Systems Command, which is the contracting activity, commissioned the work on behalf of the Navy, Spain and Italy, under an integration and production and life-cycle memoranda of understanding.

The Navy will incorporate the computers in its AV-8B and TAV-8B Harrier II attack aircraft. It will receive 53 units, while Italy will get 19, and Spain will get 11.

McDonnell, a subsidiary of The Boeing Co., Chicago, will perform the work in St. Louis. It is expected to be finished by November 2005.
